For over 15 years

she has worked in a variety of settings in the UK and Australia
  • Acute hospital settings: working with clients on medical, surgical, oncology, haematology, elderly care, trauma and orthopaedic wards. The OT assesses each client’s function (e.g. mobility, ability to carry out personal care, making a hot drink) as well as their home environment. Together the OT and client make plans for the client’s safe discharge home from hospital. This often involves referral to community services for support, aids/equipment and further rehabilitation in their home.

  • Community settings: working with clients and their families to ensure that they remain safe and independent in their own homes. Similar to hospital settings, the OT assesses how the client moves around their home and carries out daily tasks e.g. showering/bathing, cooking. Together the client and OT can create a rehabilitation programme to enable the client to regain independence with their daily activities and hobbies (e.g. accessing the local community, shops). The OT can also address concerns re: the home environment and assist with minor adaptation if necessary to enable the client to remain safe at home.
